Creative industries are important economic drivers for Hong Kong, enhancing the city’s innovation capacity and driving its growth in future.  Development of creative industries is given high emphasis, with a view to building itself as Asia's creative capital.

According to the latest statistics, Hong Kong has around 39,200 cultural and creative industry-related establishments, with about 200,000 practitioners engaged. Cultural and creative industries represent around five per cent of the Hong Kong's Gross Domestic Product.

Hong Kong has a leading edge in key creative sectors such as film, television, music, design, architecture, advertisement, comics and animation, games and digital entertainment, printing and publishing.

Resources are devoted to nurture young talent, open new design markets in the mainland of China, and to enhance Hong Kong’s status as a city of design excellence in Asia.  Measures are also implemented to enhance the intellectual property regime in Hong Kong, to promote the development of Hong Kong as a regional intellectual property trading centre, and encourage commercialization of intellectual property.

The anchor event for the media and entertainment sector is "Entertainment Expo Hong Kong", which takes place in March and April every year. It is comprised of 10 major events, including "Hong Kong International Film and TV Market", "Hong Kong International Film Festival", "Hong Kong Film Awards", and "Hong Kong Asian-Pop Music Festival".
