Alberta-Iceland Relations

  • Both Iceland and Canada are members of the Arctic Council, an intergovernmental forum established in 1996 to further cooperation, coordination and interaction among Arctic states.
  • Iceland’s economy has been diversifying over the last decade, especially within the fields of computer software, biotechnology and tourism.
  • In January 2008, Canada signed a free trade agreement with the four countries of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA): Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.
