Alberta-Kenya Relations

  • Between 2012 and 2016, 607 immigrants from Kenya chose Alberta as their destination. Approximately, 52% were economic immigrants. This includes principal applicants and their dependents. Additionally, 58 foreign workers and 201 foreign students from Kenya were issued permits.
  • Opportunities for Alberta companies exist in the oil and gas sector, cleantech and education sectors.
  • Kenya’s “Vision 2030” is the country’s longterm policy framework for development for 2008 to 2030. The strategy sets development benchmarks in several priority sectors, such as tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, trade, information technology and financial services. The government encourages investments in sectors that create employment, generate foreign exchange and create linkages with rural areas.
  • Canada and Kenya have a bilateral agreement on Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection (FIPA).
