  • Vietnam became a member of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in 1998 and hosted the 2006 APEC Summit in Hanoi. Canada is also a member of this 21-member regional forum, established in 1989 to further enhance economic growth and prosperity for the Asia-Pacific region. 
  • Vietnam became a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 1995. 
  • Vietnam is one of the 11 signatory nations to the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade agreement.
  • Between 2013 and 2017, 1,755 citizens of Vietnam became Permanent Residents of Canada, with Alberta as their intended destination. Approximately 23% were economic immigrants, including principal applicants, spouses, and dependents.
